Tour Our Terminal

Scholes International Airport sustained extensive damage from Hurricane Ike in 2008. After nearly a year of construction and renovation, the 18,000 square foot terminal building reopened on April 7, 2011. The public was invited to attend a ribbon cutting ceremony, reception and tour of the completely renovated building. Among other improvements, hurricane-resistant glass was installed in all windows and doors on both floors, the phone system, electrical system and HVAC were relocated to the second floor, the ceilings were elevated, and, in keeping with the feel of the original 1950’s terminal, the original poured terrazzo floors were refurbished. Design firm, PGAL, and local contractor, Sullivan Land Services, renovated the building, grounds, and enhanced the facility’s ADA accessibility. Completion of this $1.9 million project is yet another recovery milestone for the City of Galveston Island.
