Progress on construction project but more work and closures remain

Good news: the current construction work should be completed by the end of 2019!

Bad news: there is still a lot of work left to be done!

Here is the latest timeline on the construction project.

Taxiway B South of South Ramp and Taxiway A:

We anticipate having Taxiway B, south of South Ramp, and Taxiway A open before noon on Saturday, November 23rd. This will allow departing and landing traffic on Runway 18/36 full length access without the need to back taxi.

Runway 14/32 Closure - Construction Zone:

Runway 14/32 remains closed through 5:00 p.m. on Friday, December 13, 2019. The approach lighting system (ALS) and ILS approach to Runway 14 will be out of service, and the lights to the runway will be turned off.

Work on the concrete sections of both ends of the runway has been completed. The remaining work is at the intersection of both runways and completing the striping of Runway 14/32.

Barricade locations:

  • Taxiway D, west of Runway 18/36

  • Taxiway E, west of the approach end of Runway 18

  • Runway 14/32 on both sides of Runway 18/36

Runway Intersection Closure - Construction Zone as outlined in Green:

RAC continues to work on the runway intersection with an anticipated completion date of Friday, December 13th. During this time, both runways will be closed nightly from 9:00pm to 6:00am with an occasional closure beginning at 8:00pm. While closed, all runway, approach and PAPI lights will be turned off. Runway 18/36 will open each morning at 6:00am. CHECK NOTAMS FOR CURRENT CLOSURES.

The airport will remain open for rotor wing aircraft only while both runways are closed. Taxiway lights will remain on to assist rotor wing aircraft during night time operations. We request all rotor wing aircraft land north of Taxiway D to allow ample room for the contractors working at the intersection of the two runways.

Taxiway C & D Closures – Construction Zones as outlined in Blue:

Starting Monday, November 25th at 9:00pm through Monday, December 2nd, Taxiway C will be closed to allow RAC to make concrete repairs at the intersection of 18/36 and Taxiway C. Should the weather hold, it is possible that Taxiway C would be opened as early as Saturday, November 30th.

We anticipate work beginning on Taxiway D, west side of Runway 18/36, around December 2nd and the east side of Runway 18/36 on December 4th through the 11th. RAC will be removing the heaving asphalt and replacing it with concrete on both sides and crack sealing Taxiway D between Runway 18/36 and the Main Parking Apron.

Barricade locations:

  • Taxiway D, both sides of Runway 18/36

  • Taxiway E, west of the approach end of Runway 18

  • Runway 14/32 on both sides of Runway 18/36

Remaining Work to be done:

  • Concrete repairs at the intersection of Runway 18 and Taxiway E.

  • Pavement striping at the North Apron, Taxiways D & E, and Runway 14/32 remains to be completed. Striping is expected to start back on Monday, December 2, 2019.

  • All work is expected to be completed by the end of the year.
