Scholes Airport Begins Airfield Pavement Projects

Contractors with RAC Industries, LLC will begin making repairs on the Scholes International Airport airfield pavement on December 10. Repairs include the rehabilitation and marking of Runway 14/32, Taxiways A, B, C, D, and E, and the rehabilitation of the North Apron.

The scope of work for the runway, taxiways, and North Apron will consist of partial and full depth concrete pavement repairs, joint and crack repairs, and pavement markings. The project will take approximately 9 months to complete.

The airfield pavement improvements will be an immeasurable benefit to the aviation community in regards to safety, as well as greatly enhancing the appearance of our airport; the first impression of our island to visiting pilots and their families.

All funds used for the airport’s operation, maintenance and improvements are generated from activities at the airport or from federal and state grants; the airport receives no property tax dollars. The 2018 Texas Department of Transportation Aviation Impact Study values the airport’s annual economic impact at $131.9 million in direct output, and providing 1,510 jobs within the community.
