UPDATE: Due to Hurricane Harvey the Galveston Island 150 has been rescheduled with a proposed date of September 30th, 2017. Please check www.sportairrace.org or www.aviamation.com for the most up to date information.
Bring out your fixed wing propeller driven aircraft for the best time ever! Mike Shahan, Airport Director, welcomes all pilots to Scholes Airport for the Galveston Island 150 Air Race taking place on September 9th, 2017. Racers arriving for early registration on September 8th are encouraged to attend the Friday Night Social at GLS.
Pilots, have your race plan ready! This year Greg Bordelon’s famous “Texas Twister” course will be run. Last flown in 2012, this 10 turn challenge takes pilots around Galveston Bay and Galveston Island. It is fun, it is scenic and it is a challenge! (See the course details here.)
Lunch and awards ceremony to be held after the race. Awards will be given in all classes, trophies are awarded for top speed in 3 categories: Experimental, Factory and Heavy Metal. The slowest run of the day is honored with a neat award too! Event t-shirts, decals, posters and goody bags are given to pilots and co-pilots.
There could not be a better location than Galveston Island to add to a long weekend of air racing! Stay and play! Visit www.sportairrace.org for special hotel rates.
We look forward to seeing everyone there!
